127: The Imaam is appointed to be followed

Whoever prays behind an Imaam and does not follow him, there is no prayer for him [1].

NOTES

[1] The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The Imaam is appointed to be followed. When he says takbeer, say takbeer; when he prostrates, you should prostrate; when he rises up, you should rise up and when he says, ‘Allah listens to the one who praises Him,’ say: ‘our Lord! All praise is for you.’ When he prays sitting, all of you should pray sitting.” Reported by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim (Eng. trans. 1/226/no.817).
